Unfortunately, trauma from animal attacks or motor vehicles can lead to fractures of the jaws of dogs and cats. Here at INVDOS, we repair these fractures utilizing non-invasive and minimally invasive techniques to allow your pet to heal with a pain-free and functional mouth. We use interdental wiring and composite splinting routinely to fix jaw fractures without invasive bone surgery. This technique utilizes the teeth as anchors for the splint, which is located temporarily in the mouth and requires a second visit for removal. Our veterinarians also utilize non-invasive techniques such as labial buttons and muzzling when appropriate to repair jaw fractures. In some instances, we need to perform open reduction, which is a surgical procedure to wire the jaw bones back together. Our ability to perform Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows our veterinarians to accurately determine the best repair technique for jaw fractures.
